How do i start a brainstorm on the word ‘surfaces’ ?

For my art I have to do a brainstorm in the topic ‘surfaces’ pleaase can someone help me get started

when you say surfaces do you mean like worktops or leather material etc..
If it is art you could build a landscape and use different materials to coat it thus giving each part of the landscape a different feel to correspond with the surface it represents.
Get a big piece of paper, write surfaces in the middle, then branch out from things like rough and smooth, hard, soft, matt, glossy, then branch out again from each of those… is that enough to get started?

Just think of all the different ways in which you can categorise surfaces: Material (liquid, crystaline, natural, synthetic, etc.), texture (smooth, rough, wet,etc.), colour (tonality, brightness, darkness, etc.), area (large, small), angularity (horizontal, vertical, sloping etc.), reflectiveness (mirror like, shiny, matt), uniformity (all one unbroken surface or a composite surface of different parts). There are more categories, I’m sure if you keep thinking about it, but this can help start you off.

Try to imagine being without the sense of sight . Think about running your fingers over surfaces to find out more about them by touch . Things that would make big impact would include
wood , especially tree bark
plants , including cacti [ ouch !]
fabrics , including velvet , tweed , corduroy , satin , leather , suede
animals — scales , fur , reptile skin , human hair and skin
rocks , stones , pebbles , shells
manmade — wire , flex , cable , rope , brick, other building materials
food — veg, fruit , cakes and biscuits , meat, pies , etc
domestic– wallpapers , furnishings , dusters & other cleaning , etc
